2013 Race Report

After an atrocious start to the week with several days of rain and hail the Wingerworth Wobble course was well and truly watered. The forecast on the day was dry and cool with a light breeze, ideal for running and a lot better than initially predicted.

With going officially soft to slippy there were still some impressive times clocked by affiliated and non affiliated runners alike. With 84 entrants the Wobble field lined up at Central Drive and were soon a blur of multi-coloured vests as they sped off.

The winner this year was Shaun Martin from Sutton in Ashfield Harriers in a time of 31 minutes and 2 seconds, closely followed by Jon Hargreaves 5 seconds later. In 3rd place was Edward James in 31.32.

Title of first lady went to Jenny Reed from Matlock Athletics Club in a new ladies course record of 34 minutes and 15 seconds. The 2nd lady home was  Fiona Alexander finishing  in 36.45 and 3rd lady Samantha Iliffe finishing in 38.53.

Local runners finished strongly led by Tim Elkington for the men coming in 7th place in a time of 34.27 seconds. 1st local lady home was Lucy Bacon running for the Wingerworth Wobblers in a time of 43.20.

Jim Titterton finished in a time of 46.21 seconds regaining his Oldest Wobbler trophy – sorry Jim – more polishing for another 12 months!

All race results can be viewed on the Race Results page.

This years nominated charity – Fairplay – was chosen as several children and young adults living in and around Wingerworth use their services. I still believe our race is unique in that every penny spent on entry fees, raffle, donations and selling of refreshments goes to our nominated charity and Deer Park School PTA. With fantastic support from local businesses this allows us to direct all funds to our good causes. Many thanks to Wingerworth Tyres and Design Kabin for their sponsorship and all the members of the Wingerworth Wobblers who donated prizes. Our marshals and helpers kindly spent their time supporting the Wobble and ensuring all runners stayed on course – again many thanks to them. Without Mr Soar’s support and the PTA we would not have a race HQ – our thanks once again to them and all the volunteers and marshals around the course.

We will be voting as a club to decide on next years charity so I hope all competitors enjoyed the race and we hope to see you next year.
